Not going anywhere...

Some jobs I get never see the light of Day on my (regular) blog. It's not that they didnt turn out well (im more than happy to post those types of jobs on my blog) its that they never really felt like they were mine in the first place. These are the rare occasions where i'm hired for style over substance. Not that thats a bad thing - Im grateful to be hired for any project, and im happy to see a concept through that wasnt mine. After all, there are plenty of great ideas i dont have, and many of the ones i do have arent all that great.
At any rate - even when i do a job that already has a predetermined idea - i still pitch my own - just for fun. One recent job i really hustled to try to find a super clever solution - and although none of my ideas were picked - the exercise had some really fun results. The article was about some different aspects of retirement - first, the benificial role technology is playing in helping boomers retireSecond, the terrifying concept of running out of money while being retiredfinally, the idea that retirement is further away than you expected / the retiree is not sure what to expect...When it was all said and done, we ended up going with the Editors idea (and the final DID turn out really great) but didnt have the same kind of hard work (concept wise) that is a foundation i try to build on with my regular work. Plus side, someone liked my drawing enough to hire me just for that - that feels pretty nice!

  1. that sailboat with the emoticon is genius! Love all of these concepts and it's great to see the process. Also, I really wish there were laptop chairs; you should patent the idea.
